Hey, everybody! Just realized I've been neglecting LJ as badly as everything else. Sorry for the long absence!

Briefly: I'm doing OK, not.. y'know, mysteriously disappeared into the ether or anything. Not going to write a proper entry, just wanted to check in and let y'all know I love you and hope you're doing well.

State of Teh Family:
Mama's surgery went fine, all is well. My cats and turtle are happy - Turtle is now Rafael Francisco don Tortuga, "Cisco" for short. Also still "TURTLETURTLETURTLE" and "Don Tortuga."

State of Meh:
Still a bundle of mysterious and cruddy-ass ailments. Collapsed One Sunny Night and was dizzy for two weeks, and sick for a week after that, but seem to be okay again. Got the dosage worked out on the happy pills and the birth control, feeling much better on those scores. The golf-ball sized cyst attached to my ovary--you know, the one which is bigger than the ovary, that they were neglecting to really give me info about--is supposedly shrinking a little, so they're content to see if the hormones knock it out. Eventually. Hopefully. Also, finally got a physical therapy referral, and PT (who is awesome) agrees that all the hand/arm/wrist problems are, in fact, in my neck, and has set me to the task of kicking it into shape. Also said my back was essentially a disaster area and that I'm aging too fast, and that I'm a mess. It's sort of comforting to hear. Since she said it would help (and I've been looking for an excuse), think I'm going to start outing for deep tissue massage therapy. However, I should lay the hell off of teh computer (and teh knitting) until I can make myself do it properly. I am not doing it properly now, so I should stop.

(There's lots of knitting news, but I should probably leave that off for now. Knitting is good, and knitting looms are like happy voodoo, fyi.)

Media:
Got addicted to House, and have watched some four and a half seasons of it so far. Still have half the season of Doctor Who in DVR I haven't watched - hopefully will return to it soon. ...But not until I'm out of House, I think. Rereading Hitchhiker's Guide, and (don't sue me) I actually am thinking the book isn't as good as the preceding radio series. Just what I gotta' say. Finally bought the Tertiary Phase of the radio series (equivalent to the third book in the series, Life, the Universe, and Everything) and am in love with that, too. Keep falling asleep to the conversations between Marvin the Paranoid Android and Zem, the mattress. That may mean nothing at all to most of you, but please trust me that it is charming. Chris and I are reading Adams' Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, which is new to me. I've read quite a bit of smut, including fun retellings of Robin Hood and the Phantom of the Opera (for those who think, for instance, Christine should have stayed with the phantom).

Music:
Choir has started back up - we're doing Mendelssohn's Elijah in Spring, WOO! Also, Chris and I have been mad recording fiends, because I was finally healthy enough for an entire weekend running that I was (a) not unable to sing, (b) not cripplingly fatigued, (c) not so allergic it would be foolish to try, (d) not so depressed it mimicked one of the previous, and (d) in town. We've been trying to find that weekend for a year, now.

Okay, no, seriously, I should stop. Like two paragraphs ago. Love y'all, maybe more soon.

♥ !
I'm on my way to bed again, but wanted to say how glad I was to see you post! Good to hear the kitties and the turtle are well. Expect a TMI PM from me, tomorrowish, lol. Take it easy on the keys and the knitting needles. (Almost typed knitting kneedles, which I almost like better, ha)

Hello! Glad to hear you're doing well aside from neck/back disasterness. (Although a medically justified excuse to get frequent massages is not entirely a bad thing.)

I've read quite a bit of smut, including fun retellings of Robin Hood and the Phantom of the Opera (for those who think, for instance, Christine should have stayed with the phantom).

Any good Phantom recs? (I'm frequently tempted to dip into reading that fandom, since it was my obsession from around age 10 to age 16, but I have trouble finding the good fics. It's like they are lurking, hidden down in the basement of the internet, somewhere past the underground lake.)

Hey, sorry for the long delay! Thank you! (Definitely agreed on the excuse for massage - I think I was really just waiting or the go-ahead.)

I actually went crazy and *bought* the smut - a writer named Colette Gale has pumped out three kink-redux novels in the last few years: a Marion/Sheriff of Nottingham called "Bound By Honor," a Phantom/Christine called "Unmasqued," and a Count of Monte Cristo number I haven't read. I mostly think they were very good, though I'm not always 100% sure. I definitely enjoyed them, though!

I've tried a couple of times to find good phantom fic, but with no luck - I didn't make a very comprehensive search, though. (After the movie came out, I was briefly obsessed with the Phantom-hanging-Raoul part of "Down Once More"--and the whole cuckold angle in "Point of No Return"--because I thought the actor managed to make Raoul actually worth paying attention to, but no dice on anything there that I can recall. :\ )
