Lauren or Lou, as you like.

Another way-too-quickie post.
I hesitate to mention everyone being okay, since the universe seemed to take that as a challenge last time.
Since my last post:
Mama got in a car accident, and but for the grace of about 12" would have lost her head to the circular saw that came through the trunk and over the seat and through the windshield. She is banged up and sore, but no breaks or tears, the car still runs, and I think even the circular saw is okay. She somehow managed to NOT aggravate her knee in the process, thank the Moose. She is definitely doing okay.
(True to form, she didn't let me know it had happened, and when I called three days after, she remembered to mention it midway through the conversation.)
Alex is fine, but Arthur spent two days in hospital with a UTI and needed fluids, blood, antibiotics, etc, but seems to be fine after a lot of amoxicillin, prednisolone, and prescription food. Alex, unfortunately, likes the very, very expensive prescription food, so there's always a bowl-switching dance going on, but that is definitely okay. Because they're okay. This is what matters. My babies are both home and healthy, and they are okay.
Tortuga seems to have gotten a spot of shell rot, and doesn't like the cooler weather (which in fits and starts is coming in and going away and coming back; people less hardy than we are switching between AC and heat and back daily). He was refusing to eat and was hiding and had some funny spots and was worrying me a lot. After a lot of spells of being set out in the sun, scrubbed, scraped, and having warm water dumped in his tank while I figure out what kind of heater his house will support, though, he seems to be fine. He is also essentially okay.
I've had more fun health issues, and had some nasty little spells, but seem to be... again... okay. Deciding to take one day a week off of working, because even though it's a small amount of hours altogether, I was starting to get a little freaked out about not getting to do my housewife thing and sit quietly without being on call for a little while. Seems to be helping. (A lot of digestive issues have meant I have NOT been getting the full benefit of the Prozac, but that's at least some better.) Getting PT and massage every 2-3 weeks, and getting the golf ball looked at sometime next week. It's been a little sore, on-and-off, so I hope that's not a bad sign. I'm even considering risking a flu shot (never had one) since taking even a couple options out of the pool should reduce my absurd number of times getting sick at least somewhat.
Better news: for my birthday, went horseback riding for the first time, and am eager to go again. Love singing Elijah (if you're in the Valley, please please please come see us in May because it will be amazing). I am becoming the baking queen - I have made fucking Palmieres. I have mastered goddamn Danish Braids and Danish pinwheels that, when fresh out of my own oven, make bakery buys seem like stale insta-treats out of plastic bought off quick-mart racks. I am also rocking the homemade sandwich bread. Between us, Chris and I are going to be able to go off commercial starch entirely, which is fantastic. I'm still knitting like I shouldn't be, but keeping my head up and shoulders back and neck straight (which is awkward, but means I'm not in disgusting pain), and am about halfway through my Christmas knitting. Loooooooving it. And holy shit does knitting a Clapotis in public get a lot of love from strangers. (Oddly enough, being a Knitting God and knitting two socks, toe-up, at the same time on the same circular needle has just resulted in confusion, even among other knitters. Oh, well - I know it's awesome.)
Media: finished seasons 1-4 of Ballykissangel, finished House and NCIS in time for them to start back up, finished Hitchhiker's Guide and Dirk Gently; on to The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul (ie the second Dirk Gently novel), new NCIS, Bones, and House, season 5 of BallyK, and A Bit of Fry & Laurie (So. Much. Fun.).
BallyK and tea have featured prominently in my pilot versions of the Not-Working-Mondays, and so has laundry, and general turtle maintenance. This is richly fulfilling.
But I need to figure out how to get writing again before--or at least concurrent with--NaNo restarting. Not a clue what I'm doing this year, but I haven't written seriously in months and I need it, need it, need it.
I keep finding myself falling prey to online solitaire and block/arcade games. Probably not helping anything, but when I keep it sort of under control, it's fun.
Okay, think that covers the basics. Everything is, to dangerously restate the premise, okay. Love and love and love to you all.
