In the deanwbigbang I was lucky enough to snag the story "Fancy" by the fabulous laughablelament. It is delicious and you should definitely go run right now and treat yourself to some casefic and hotness.
See below for the full NSFW art and some arty (but not to say Artie) chat.
So I'm slowly getting a little more comfortable making digital art, and the ability to Ctrl+Z is a big part. But being able to add a dark backlit background without having to shade the hell out of an entire page behind and around the subjects is turning out to be pretty awesome. This was done in the free Sketchbook program that came on my work Surface and I got wonderful constructive feedback from quickreaver, amberdreams, and marietwist that helped make this so much better than earlier drafts. And the source material was soooo inspiring. (Dean casually explaining how he could just fuck Ketch up if Ketch wanted, how could I NOT pick this moment?!).
I'm pleased with how this came out overall--their positions, the tricky lighting, the freckles (open the full size for those!)--but there are two things that I'm particularly proud of:
1) that tattoo was done by hand, and even has the broken lines of the 'canon' item. It was fussy but it's basically perfect and I'm pleased as punch. And,
2) I DREW A DICK. Granted, it's half a dick, but it's a dick--an honest-to-goodness-dick--and I drew it, and I put it online for you. I'm like 98% certain I've drawn some peen once or twice before in my life, but not that really got shown to anyone. (No, seriously, like not even those dorky doodles every kid graffito'd on someone else's homework.) This means I'm Growing as an Artist. And as a Human.
Next major task: learn how to get more texture so I feel less like my finished products belong on wikihow. (Already feel like this one's a lot better on that front than some of my others, but I definitely have room to improve.)
Caveats: while I didn't use position refs for Dean, and only roughly consulted one for Ketch, I got a lot of help correcting Dean's positioning from the aforementioned fabulous artists, and I DID trace their facial profiles so they'd, y'know, actually look like Dean and Ketch, since that's still proving really tricky for me. That's something else I want to put more practice into.
I'll tell you what, I am SO impressed with the tattoo, with the tension, the frecklessssss. ;) Sexy, taut, light-and-dark. I just love it all. My absolute honor, pleasure, and treat to have shared this challenge with you. Thank you for sharing your gifts. xo
